2016 Retrospective: The Present
Every year, when December 31st arrives on the doorsteps, I look at it with wide-eyed disbelief.
Here already, old friend? Happy to see you again. Looking forward to new adventures in the coming year!
For the last few weeks, I've been on vacation from blogging and social media updates. We haven't been traveling, instead, we've been welcoming families and friends who have traveled from around the world to visit us during the holiday season. We've been enjoying some lovely, festive times and counting our blessings. Looking at the pictures from 2016, I can't believe how fast the kids have grown and how we've managed to travel near and far with them.
It's been one year since I decided to start TravelChicMom.com (it was my new year's resolution!). Since I started the blog, I've been able to re-connect with old friends and have met new kindred spirits. Thank you for following along on our trips through the blog posts and my Instagram account. Thank you for taking the time to meander through my little patch of digital space!
In 2016, we started the year celebrating with our French family in the Loire Valley. In late Spring, we returned to Taiwan and visited my grandmother's hometown after she passed away. We stopped by Hong Kong and shared some family moments. During the year, we've visited many cities in the western United States, including Seattle, Las Vegas, and Sedona. In the year of #FindYourPark (US National Park Services' centennial), we've revisited Yosemite and Grand Canyon National Park with our little ones. We've zipped up and down the northern Californian coast, from Napa Valley to the Monterey Peninsula. We've discovered and re-discovered many gems in the San Francisco Bay Area, and have zig-zagged through San Francisco countless times. We've also paid a Fall visit to California's eastern Sierra Nevada, it was one of the best road trips ever. My biggest challenge? Not enough time to write timely blog posts!
As I count our blessings and reflect upon this past year, I'm thankful first and foremost for the people that I've come across on this life-long journey. There had been many trips with different companions, but it's always been one journey. As I travel on, now with my little family, I strive to live in the present. The good thing is that young kids constantly remind you just that.
Thank you for joining me on this journey. Here's to 2016, and more to come in 2017!
