Hyatt House Seattle Downtown: A Perfect Base for Exploring Seattle with Kids (Full Review)
As you've seen in my Seattle with Toddlers post, Seattle, this city in the Pacific Northwest, is perfectly family-friendly. And guess what? We found the perfect family-friendly hotel as a home-away-from-home in Seattle: Hyatt House Seattle Downtown. We established our temporary home base here during our visit, and we were able to walk to many attractions around Seattle city center instead of having to rely on transportation. It was a fun break from our Californian car culture.
Hyatt House Seattle Downtown - The Location
Hyatt House Seattle Downtown is located right next to Seattle Center, the conglomerate of museums, gardens, theaters, shops, and dining venues. The Puget Sound waterfront and the outdoor Olympic Sculpture Park are both a mere 10-minute-walk away. If you'd like to visit Seattle downtown, it's only a short 20-minute-stroll down Fifth Avenue, or it's just a few minutes away on the Seattle Monorail.
Want to visit Space Needle, the famed Seattle landmark? I'll let the picture below do the talking.
What's even better is that the hotel provides a complimentary shuttle service that can take you to most destinations within an one-mile radius from the hotel. This is particularly useful after you've ventured out a few hours on foot in downtown, walked around Pike Place Market and got your bellies full, and you've got two tired toddlers that just couldn't walk anymore. You can simply call the hotel for a shuttle pick-up, and save yourself the time and energy to deal with the toddler's potential mid-afternoon public melt-downs.
If you fancy visiting South Lake Union's Museum of History & Industry (MOHAI) or simply want to take in Seattle's coffee culture at the lakefront cafés, the shuttle can also be of service.
Hyatt House Seattle Downtown - Lobby Amenities
We've been a fan of the Hyatt House concept and have stayed at several locations. One of my favorite feature is that the lobbies are usually a convivial "living room" shared with fellow hotel guests. There's a 24-hour grocery store on-site, so in case you've forgot to pack your toothpaste, or if you have a midnight craving for chocolate ice cream, the store has the answers for you.
The complimentary self-service coffee bar also helps to make the stay at Hyatt House a warm and friendly experience. After a trip outside, we'd come back and pour ourselves some coffee and make some hot chocolate for the kids, and this easily prompts for fun conversations with other guests who are hanging out in the lobby.
Hyatt House Seattle Downtown - The Room
We opted for a Queen Studio during our stay. We liked that the bedroom was slightly separate from the lounge area, which proved useful during the kids' nap time. You can also book a one-bedroom unit, which gives you even more privacy.
The interior deco is modern, functional, and very homey. There isn't a lot of guess work involved for the different lighting fixtures, and you have lots of lighting control in the space to create a cozy atmosphere. The bathroom was modern and clean, the basic amenities are provided, it feels just like home.
The good thing about having a fully-stocked kitchen like the ones in the Hyatt House studios is that you can save a few bucks and a few trips to restaurants, and prepare home-cooked meals away from home. I don't know about you, but as much as I enjoy trying new, local flavors, sometimes I just want to have a simple meal with my favorite ingredients when I'm traveling. Room-service doesn't always cut it, so being able to make something in the studio is a comforting option. Especially when we travel with kids.
I should probably note that we found a lovely French restaurant just a five-minute-walk away from the hotel. Tilikum Place Café has authentic French food cooked with lots of heart, and their cheese and wine selection proved very soothing for my French husband.
Hyatt House Seattle Downtown - The Breakfast
What always makes a difference in hospitality is the service. The human aspect is irreplaceable by any fancy deco or amenities. Every morning during our stay at Hyatt House Seattle Downtown, we were greeted like house guests by a lovely gentleman who remembered our names and our breakfast preferences.
Remember my post about "The Everything Omelette"? Well, it was inspired by the omelette bar at the Hyatt House Seattle Downtown. We loved the made-to-order omelettes, and looked forward to it every morning during our stay.
Speaking of which, you might have spotted that same omelette on my Instagram feed. Don't forget to follow me on Instagram to get more daily behind-the-scenes snapshots!
Hyatt House Seattle Downtown - Our Overall Impression
Staying at the Hyatt House Seattle Downtown definitely enhanced our experience in Seattle. It has the convenience of location, impeccable service, family-friendly amenities. The complimentary shuttle service and daily breakfast bar were definitely a plus. We were convinced yet again that the Hyatt House hotel concept was right for our family trips. It's like having the same serviced apartment in many places in the world. If you're looking for a hotel stay with lots of home-like autonomy and just the right amount of assistance to make it smooth, Hyatt House is right for you.
Will we stay at the Hyatt House Seattle Downtown again when we return to Seattle? Or, another Hyatt House in another city? Hands-down, yes!
